How Many Domains Do You Own?

Posted on April 29, 2006 at 11:03 pm

If you have even half of what ShoeMoney, you should be making a good living by now. How many does ShoeMoney have? The exact figures are unknown, but he has given us a few clues. In February 2006, ShoeMoney posted about service frustrations with GoDaddy.com. He had over 1,500 domains on that post. Today, he posted his reviews of the GoDaddy service but now has over 10,000 domains!

A quick calculation shows that ShoeMoney registered approximately 101 new domains per day during this period. That’s one hardworking domain owner! Guess we’ll never know how many ShoeMoney really owns! Does anybody out there care to share how many domains they own?

I don’t anywhere near the number Shoemoney has (or even had). With a raucous 26 domains, I am pleased to use just the basic old registrar interface. Now… I’d like to take my domain count to 100+ by year end (all generating at least some income). But at present, that is surely just a goal.

    Wow, 101 new domains/day.

And I thought my collection of 84 was notable. :)

[...] Posted on May 8, 2006 at 10:40 pm Some heated discussion about Markus Frind’s claims have popped up at ShoeMoney’s blog. 1Offs.com will not be taking sides on this but would like to invite ShoeMoney to clear up his story about the 10,000 domains claim, since he is all for honesty! [...]

I also noted the increase in number in how many domains he said he owns.
I’ll love for him to clarify how many domains he really owns. I read his blog from time to time and like it, and like some of the advice he gives, but now after the plentyoffish incident, I’m having trouble assimilating how a guy that calls someone a liar, can be one himself.

Registering 101 domains a day for a period of time does not seem impossible to me (know people who have done it), however, registering 101 domains a day with the same company that you complained about before and said you weren’t happy with, and I’ll quote shoe :

“Anyway…. I do not think I can afford to keep my domains at godaddy any more. I have read others horror stories and I think my time is running out. I will probably move them all to moniker.com”

To me doing so is not less than stupid, nonsense, crazy, and ridiculous. So either he is a liar himself or a very stupid man.
Also he could have made a mistake about the numbers, unlikely however (1500 not very similar to 10,000).

Ohhh and just to stay on topic I own exactly 1652 domains myself.

I can tell you that 101 names purchases a day is no problem (if money is not a concern), however to purchase that number of names (or keep the creativity going to generate new names - that are actually worth something) at prices whose *daily total isn’t several thousand dollars* takes an awful lot of searching and filtering through lists and sites and is NOT easy. Lists of recent sales have to be reviewed to keep up to date on what topic, theme, event, product, technology is in a rising value trend, ie: domain, VOIP, EV, hybrid ….. etc. I purchased my first domain name on August 30, 2005 and now have just over 3,400 (a fluid number depending on auctions won/lost and successful (completed) sales. I have spent many more 10-15 hour days than 3-8 hour days, in this pursuit. As a very green rookie (no significant previous experience or education related to the interent) I had to find my way around… for instance, finding huge time-saving tools that search names in bulk, returning the registrars’ and owner’ identities, registration date and status was as good as a lottery win as I had been stumbling along investigating names one at a time… oh well, didn’t know any better :o( )
I am new - first time visitor so forgive me if I am covering old ground or am wandering outside the parameters or intended scope when I ask the following.
Is there a forum/or previously discussed here and/or elsewhere that ranks over all what the best monetization efforts are, as ACTUALLY experienced by owners. I recognize the difficulties and variables (attributes of a given traffic stream is enough to make the effort nearly impossible) in play but surely in broad categories we all must have some “golden gooses” and some that have no conversions, low %, payment reliability “issues”, 1 tier, 2 tiers… 5 day, 30 day, 180 day limit customer return that will still credit to affiliate. Great up front revenue? Great long-term revenue?

Any comments on great finds of turn key (or close) auction site software?
Any recommendations for robust site building (software/templates), hosting and reselling for specifically someone with limited OS/server expertise? (where server hardware and sofware is managed allowing effort to be directed to setting up sites and reseller marketing)

I had 3 ;), but i read once in digitalpoint forum from guy that stated that having
and contrloing 10k domains is possible. I wonder only how to coordinate this amount, having one password is dangerouse and having 10k passowords its like impossible :)

  8. StereoGuy Says:

I believe shoemoney has many people working under him to take care of these domains. As Glink said, controlling 10,000 domain names is really a very difficult task, unless there are many employees (may be 10 or more) or these is a really superb software in place.

I sometimes doubt, if just controlling the domains is so difficult, how difficult will it be to install websites there ?
